School / Principal's Welcome
Welcome
Reading School is proud of its long and distinguished history. It is both a specialist environment for the very able and an important part of the life and culture of the town itself. Every boy is encouraged to develop and attain his potential. Teaching and learning are key to what we do. Our teachers are highly skilled and thirsty for knowledge about their subject and about their practice. Our students respond to this in kind and achieve some of the best results nationally at all Key Stages.
We have a wide curriculum of examined and additional activities. Our passion is sharing our expertise and, increasingly, our resources with the local community. Our experience of international travel and partnerships knows no bounds. Recent sporting tours of Argentina, the Caribbean, South Africa and, most recently, New Zealand have been outstanding successes. The establishment of the International Baccalaureate as an additional Sixth Form programme alongside A-level illustrates our commitment to global education. Our dual subject specialisms in the Humanities and Science are testament to the connection we have made with the Specialist Schools ethos and further evidence, if any were needed, of a profound understanding of what Gifted and Talented education in a grammar school context means in practice.
These aspects of Reading School have received particular praise in our last inspection report. The full Inspection Report can be accessed on the OFSTED website via links on these pages.
Sustaining this level of achievement comes at a price! If you are an Old Redingensian wanting to find out how the school is faring, I hope you are pleased with what you see! If you are a parent, prospective parent or friend simply curious about what we are about, read on!
We are an ancient school (800 years and counting…) housed in a building of fine Victorian architecture. We want to continue to thrive in this wonderful setting, but we lack facilities other schools take for granted. The first of those is a dining area. Please follow the link to find out more about our bid to build a Refectory in the school Quad. We are delighted that English Heritage have given the go-ahead for this project.
We need to raise £750,000 in the next year to make this dream a reality. If you think you can help, please contact either me or our development Administrator on:

I hope that you enjoy finding out about Reading School and that you can see what we have to offer and why we are proud to be associated with it. Please feel free to explore our website and if you still have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
2009 Examinations Update
I am delighted to report that we recorded some of our best ever public examination results this summer. I was particularly pleased that we broke the 90% barrier for A-B grades achieved at A-level for a second consecutive year.
As a result of exceptional performances all round, 21 of our Oxbridge candidates gained places at their chosen colleges. Elsewhere at GCSE a highly commendable 81% of the grades our students achieved were at A* or A.
Congratulations to all concerned!
